On Gaining and Losing

I have recently been offered to be an SEO / SEM consultant by the third largest outdoor advertising company in my country. This is quite a big break considering that they are willing to have me spear head the project of online advertising and publishing for their company. I encountered this company through Recruitment Advertising, which goes to show that you can catch big fish in the sea – if you know where to look for it.

Anyhow, I’m still in a dilemma on whether I’ll take on that project or not. It is a very challenging and interesting task – one that is sure to keep me rolling in my bed in anticipation. But the thing is, am I ready for it?

Just so you know, that offer cost me to give up on one of my dreams and to put on hold my business partnership with one of my dearest friend. I guess nothing’s really free.

On Cost Cutting Getting Ghastly

One of the hardest tasks of being a project manager is budgeting and cost cutting. With cost cutting, I mean sorting through each detail like going through Frigidaire Parts and checking out which one is still useful, which one needs repair, which one should be replaced, and which one you can make do without.

Cost cutting would have been easy if it is just involves some office perks and services. But it is pretty ghastly if it involves cutting down salaries, or worse, letting go of people you have grown attached with – and all because you need to cut cost.

My CEO and I have been debating for the past two months on how to effectively run our company without incurring lost, and based from our cost sheet, the bulk of our cost goes to salaries. Which is why if we don’t start earning money soon, I just might need to do some drastic measures. God, help me.

Importance of Goals and Visualization

It is important for a person to have a goal. It doesn’t matter if your goal is to have your own gmc envoy, own a company, or simply have a decent job. Goals give you a sense of direction and purpose in life.

It helps you get through those “my life is in shambles” and “I’m better off dead” moments that are often times inevitable. I should know; I’ve been there.

Having goals also helps you appreciate life more. It reminds you that no matter how wretched your life may seem right now, you know that it is just a phase and that things will get better. As Rhonda Byrne puts it, “The reason visualization is so powerful is because as you create pictures in your mind of seeing yourself with what it is you want, you are generating thoughts and feelings of having it now. Visualization is simply powerfully focused thought in pictures, and it causes equally powerful feelings.”

Scratch the Regular Business School, Enroll in an Online MBA Program

Having been promoted to the position of project manager of a network of 20 lifestyle and sports-related websites, the odds of me being able to enroll in an MBA program is close to a zilch. I’m swamped with work and even have very little time for social trivialities. Which is why I’m considering enrolling in an aacsb online mba.

In case you don’t know, AACSB stands for “The Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business”, and according to research, only 7% of educational institutions worldwide with business degrees are accredited by this governing body. So if you’re also planning to get an MBA, be it online or on a regular program, I suggest you diligently do a background research on its accreditation as well. After all, you will not only be spending your money, you will also be spending worth more than all the money in the world – your precious time.

the importance of corporate lawyers

We’re currently in need of an Attorney Referral with the recurring problems our HR manager has been having in hiring people. In fact, I think now is the time to consider having a corporate lawyer with our constant expansion.

You see, one of the common problems our HR is experiencing is the unexpected quitting or AWOL of new employees who have already signed their contracts. Some of which have even stayed for more than a week.

With this unforeseen predicament, our clients are getting disappointed in our employee selection process. From what I can see, if we have a well drafted employee contract with a corporate lawyer to enforce its validity, we will have minimal to no problem with regards to this issue.

on career dilemma

My old colleague Karmina, who’s currently studying in Brooks Photography School, and I recently had coffee. While sipping through my cold coffee, I related the job offer I got as a project manager and the dilemma I was in because I could not decide if that position was worth sacrificing my current lifestyle – which is freelancing, part-timing, with a lot of time in my hands but enough cash.

She pointed out that with my talent and skills, I can get better job offers without having to slave myself working. Then again, the job position they are offering me is my dream job – (almost) complete control of the project I’ve been working on for more than three years. Who can resist it?

I made the right choice cause with my first week as project manager, our CEO and another higher up are singing praises and commending me for a job well done – something they never did in my more than three years of working there. I hope this keeps up.

upgrade your career with an MBA

My friend and college batchmate, Twyla, recently checked in a posh Berlin hotel to follow up on her MBA applications at the Institute of Management Berlin (IMB). She’s currently eyeing their MBA European-Asian Programme. However, due to her schedule and her tight budget, she might end up taking one of IMB’s MBA Part-time Programmes.

This reminded me… I have also been planning to get an MBA degree with my upcoming promotion as general manager in our company. Although experience in a certain field is enough to give you an authority or a say on your subordinates, having an MBA makes you more credible and respectable. Plus, not only will having an MBA enhance and boost your career, you will be able to serve your company better if you know are equipped with fundamental skills to make you a more strategic thinker.

Anyhow, do take note that most MBA programs require you to have at least two years of work experience and be in the managerial position at your current job. So grab any opportunity to be in that level, and then take an MBA.
